there’s no such person as sebastian. but his ice cream is darn good

because we had to do a feature on ice cream for a magazine, camille and i discovered the world of artisan ice cream. we’ve only tried a few, but so far we have a favorite: Sebastian’s. we liked it so much when we sampled a bit to write about, we’ve been back twice already. and to think camille really isn’t fond of ice cream!

on our most recent trip we had a scoop of salted butter caramel (P100)

this was a true treat for the tastebuds. we could taste the butter, we could taste the salt, we could taste the caramel. every flavor built on the other – none was drowned, none bullied the others. this was an experience similar to a previous trip when we tried the tres leches which contained my favorite milks – evap and condensada. each milk flavor was quite distinct.

we also had a dive bar (P100). now a dive bar is like a really sophisticated pinipig crunch and comes in different varieties

but after careful consideration, we decided to go for what seemed to be the ultimate flavor: snack attack

this was butter ice cream with something like caramel-y toffee-y coating and then rolled with all sorts of wonderful things like chocolate covered potato chips, peanut butter pretzels, and peanuts. dee-licious! and embodying the other thing we love about sebastian’s ice cream – the sorbetero (ian carandang), understands very well the beauty of a salty dessert.

sebastian’s is a wonderful discovery for us and we’re now making plans like ordering a couple of pints for birthdays. for the first time we feel like spreading ice cream love.
